Direct response marketingWhen I began marketing on the internet I had no idea the journey I was in for. What I mean by this is the huge learning curve you are faced with when you take your first steps into the world of direct response marketing. I think what makes it so hard, when you first start out into marketing on the internet; you have no website marketing strategy or anything like it. You are going into this thing completely blind and there are hundreds of people trying to pull you this way and that way, trying to sell you there products that will make you a million over night. Well the truth of the matter is that it requires a lot of hard work to have any kind of success with direct response marketing. If you are going to succeed you’re going to need a website marketing strategy. This can be kind of hard when you’re not even sure of what you’re doing or were to start. But I can tell you from my 12 years of marketing on the internet. There are a lot of things you should not do, as well as many things that you need to do to be successful.I am first going to start with a list of things you should not do. I might get a few people mad at me for saying what I'm going to say. But this is just my opinion based on my experience, and I don’t intend any malice to anyone that offers these services I am going to talk about. 1 Don't be fooled and buying into all theses great products that are going to make you a million in a month’s time, that's a bunch of crap to get you to part with your money. Now I'm not saying their all garbage, but I will say there is a lot of garbage out there. 2 You have to be very careful of who you listen to online in regards to direct response marketing, there are a lot of people claiming to be experts that are just reciting what someone else told them, or they are trying to condition you for a sale down the road. I know it all sounds kind of doggy dog and to a certain extent it is. The analogy I use is to compare marketing on the internet as to the ocean. You have bottom feeders you have top feeders and a whole lot in between. But the sharks are the one's you need to watch. 3 As for methods of generating traffic, Traffic Exchanges or any kind of method that produces untargeted traffic is no good for direct response marketing, because is not targeted to your product or service and is an absolute waist of your time. This also includes most of these mailing list were you signup and get to e-mail five million people. The people on those lists are not going to even see your e-mail that you send them, and the ones that do are not targeted to your product. This method is one of the worst ways to do marketing on the internet. This also applies to free leads and all that other stuff that generates untargeted traffic. One very targeted visitor to your sales page is worth 3000 or more of untargeted visitors. This is no exaggeration if anything if might be an understatement. 4 This last one I don't want to turn you off of it, because if you know how to use them they can make you rich. But I will say you better know what you’re doing or you could lose a considerable amount of money. What I'm talking about is Google Adwords. In my opinion you have to have a good knowledge in the use of Google Adwords if you’re going to build a successful campaign that makes more money then it loses. This is one of the hardest ways of marketing on the internet and will require that you be an expert in every aspect of keywords and keyword usage. You should have a good understanding of onsite search engine optimization (SEO). You will also have to perform a huge amount of testing and retesting of your ads, keywords, and landing page. I look at Google Adwords as a drug addition, you can get hooked and when Google decides to change the rules, your once highly relevant ads now have no relevancy anymore. This can really hurt and the Google withdraw can kill your once thriving business. 5 What I would recommend you not do, is submitting your website to search engines and most directories, as this is not a good website marketing strategy. If you want to get your site indexed in the search engines, just make a submission to a reputable site like Digg or Mixx or any site that gets crawled on a regular basis and let the engines find you that way. Don't bother making a whole lot of submissions to all these forums and Blogs that use no follow scripts. The only benefit from this activity is a trickle of traffic. Stay away from any kind of link farming as this is the equivalent of giving your website poison. Don't bother with link exchanges. All these things mentioned are a poor website marketing strategy, and not how to go about marketing on the internet. If your going to trade links with on other site make sure they don't have a lot of out going links, and check that there links don't go to bad neighborhoods. Well that’s enough about what's not good to do when marketing on the internet, here's what you should be learning and doing when doing direct response marketing on the internet. 1 If you want a good resource for marketing on the internet then I would strongly suggest you go and join the Warriors forum, this forum has a huge amount of information and some of the best internet marketers in the world to ask questions to. They can bring you up to speed in a hurry. The only problem is like most forums there not big on freedom of speech. I was banned from the Warriors forum because I have a big mouth, and still believe in freedom of speech. But make no mistake, their are some really great people there and it is a very good place to learn about direct response marketing and can help you tremendously in your marketing endeavors.
The next thing, I strongly believe you need good web hosting to host your website. You will need to learn how to build your own web pages. This is not that hard to do, there are all kinds of free tools that you can find to help you with building webpage’s, and also you need to learn just enough HTML to be able to put scripts into you web pages. 2 If you plan to sell affiliate products your going to need to learn were the best affiliate networks are, and who to deal with and what products convert the best. It is no use trying to sell a product or service if there is no demand for it. If you are thinking of selling information products then Clickbank is one of the better networks, but they have had some tracking problems from time to time. 3 One of the biggest things you need to learn in direct response marketing is to become an expert in keywords usage. You need to learn how to find good keywords, what are the money keywords? What keywords have the best click through rate (CTR)? What keywords have the lowest competition? You need to learn the differences between keywords you might be looking to use in your Google Adwords campaign as to the keywords you would be looking for to run Adsense ads on your WebPages. I cannot stress enough about the need to be proficient in the use of Keywords; this is the one thing that held me back in marketing on the internet for a long time. Don't go out and waist money on buying any keyword research tools, until you know how to go and manually find those keywords yourself without the aid of any program. Once you are skilled enough to find good keywords, then you should seriously consider buying a keyword research tool like the one I sell on this site. I don't just say this because I sell this tool. I say it because it will save you hours of time and actually make keyword research fun again. Now most of the keyword tools I used online worked good and saved me a great deal of time. The only reason I like the one I sell, is because it is user friendly and has a lot of extra features, and you don't have to keep paying for the service every month. If you’re going to do direct response marketing then a good keyword research tool will be a critical part of your website marketing strategy. 4 Some good ways to generate traffic when marketing on the internet involves writing articles for article directories. You must optimize your articles with good keywords and anchor text for the links in the bio field. I personally feel the best volume and quality of traffic comes from SEO practices. This can bring you the very best in traffic. With a hundred visitors a day of this kind of traffic and a product that converts at 2%, you can make yourself a tidy amount of money each day from just one webpage. 5 Other great ways to generate high quality traffic to your sales page is to build Squidoo Len’s or Hub Pages and direct the traffic from those pages to your website. This can be a very powerful way to getting high quality traffic and a great part of your website marketing strategy. And as always those pages have to be optimized both onsite and offsite for the right keywords. 6 Another great method for traffic generation is with the use of Yahoo answers, but again you need to learn how to use there advanced search to find relevant questions to answer. You also have to make sure to get those keywords in those answers without appearing to be spamming. 7 One super good way to get lots of traffic that is not the greatest quality is with a little known method. You optimize the images on your webpage's. You do this by naming the image file with your keywords. You also put your keywords in the alternative text for the image. You also surround the image with text that contains your keywords and there synonyms. Here's a little secret they don't tell you, you also build back links to the URL's for those images. Then sit back and watch the traffic roll in. This traffic comes from Google images, when people do a search for an image.
